Splitting the calendar fairly: points, peak days and bank holidays
Everyone wants the August bank holiday. Nobody wants a wet Tuesday in February. Points sort that out.
The quickest way to fall out with your co-owners is to argue about dates. So every car on Mile Club runs the same written rules, enforced by the calendar itself.
Points, not days
Each car has a pool of 120 points a year, shared out by share. A quarter share gets 30 points, a half share gets 60. Each day costs points depending on demand:
- Winter weekday (November to March): 0.5 points
- Standard day, including winter weekends: 1 point
- Weekend day in the driving season (April to October): 1.5 points
- Peak day: 2 points
A Friday-to-Sunday trip in May costs 4 points, so a quarter share gives you about seven long weekends in the season, or a week in summer plus a handful of weekends.
What counts as peak
Bank holiday weekends (the Saturday, Sunday and Monday), Easter from Good Friday to Easter Monday, St Patrick's Day, every Saturday and Sunday in July and August, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, St Stephen's Day, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. Here are the public holidays for 2027:
| Holiday | Date in 2027 |

| New Year's Day | Fri 1 Jan 2027 |

The booking rules
- Minimum booking is three days. Collect from 10am on the first day, return by 7pm on the last.
- Longest booking is seven days in the season and 14 in winter.
- Book up to a year ahead, with at least two days' notice.
- You can hold two bookings that include peak days more than 60 days ahead. Inside 60 days, unclaimed peak dates are open to anyone with points left.
- Cancel 14 days or more ahead and all your points come back. Later than that, you lose half.
The lead owner can block dates for servicing, and those blocks override everything else. See the full rules.
