Ford Capri shares in Ireland

The Capri was Europe's answer to the Mustang, and Ireland bought plenty. Good ones are now scarce because most rusted away, which is why values for the V6 cars keep climbing.

Why a Ford Capri works as a shared car

The V6 Capris are thirsty, so spreading the fuel and running costs across four co-owners makes a lot of sense. The car has four seats and a hatchback on the Mk2 and Mk3, which helps.

Which one to buy

The Mk1 has the purest shape. The Mk3 2.8 Injection and 280 are the best to drive. Four-cylinder cars cost less and are easier on fuel.

What to check before you buy

  • Front chassis legs, inner wings and the strut tops.
  • Floors, sills, rear arches and the spare wheel well.
  • Is a 2.8i or 280 genuine? Copies are common.
  • Cologne V6 timing gears can be noisy, and the Essex V6 runs hot if the cooling system is tired.
  • Rust-proofing history. A car that was waxed underneath when new is worth paying more for.

Whatever the car, get an independent inspection before you pay for a share, and read what goes in a co-ownership agreement.

Ford Capri shares, answered

How much does a share in a Ford Capri cost?

It depends on the car and how many shares it's split into. As an example, a 1984 Capri 2.8 Injection worth €24,000 split 4 ways is about €6,000 a share, with running costs of around €72 a month each before fuel.

Why are Capri prices rising?

So few survived the rust that clean, original cars are now rare, and a generation that grew up with them can finally afford one.

What fuel economy does a Capri V6 get?

Expect around 7 to 10 km per litre in normal driving, less if you enjoy it.
